Friday report

Well thank goodness it's not as hot as last Friday!!

Our week started on Monday with a Not Back to School Party at the Adventure Park just outside of Geelong.  The kids had a blast on all the water slides etc.  We had camped overnight Sunday with friends to save the long drive on Monday.

Here is Miss M on her first official day of prep.  She had a friend beside her also on his first day.  What a way to spend your first school day huh!

Much fun was had by all.

Tuesday we spent packing up and getting home.  We were still pretty tired from Monday.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have been school days.

Jordan:
*Still working on the Tudors, specifically on a biography of Elizabeth I  He needed a reminder about how to use outlines to best effect in preparing for a written work.  And about keeping it simple and not going into too much detail.  Learning what not to include is an important skill.
*Started Conceptual Physics
*Reading Tom Sawyer
*Grammar, Maths, French etc.  A normal week.

Connor:
*Review of Latin Vocab in preperation for next week.

*A title page for his writing scrapbook this year.   The idea for this came from a scrapbook that Jordan did at school in 2003.  It's become a very precious keepsake as it is beautifully presented and has reviews, recounts, articles etc about things that interested him at the time.  Connor is very excited about doing his own one as he has often looked at Jordans. He has decided his first entry will be a book review on Roald Dahls BFG.
*History, SOTW3 chapter 1 with a scrapbook page in his History Scrapbook (can you tell I like scrapbooks) on the Spanish and their explorations in the Americas.
Here he is with his History scrapbook on the left, first page complete, and his writing scrapbook on the right.
*Maths, continued review on Multiplication
*Grammar, review on a few topics that he was a bit rusty on.

Mia
*Maths, using Math U See Primer we have started on addition
*Literacy; we have done lots of segmenting and blending practice.  We have been making up and illustrating sentences and doing the simple readers on the Starfall site.   Games matching pictures and words, reading word cards etc.  Concentrating on repetition of key words so that they are learnt.  With the proviso that any word presented must be decodeable using the sounds Mia already knows. No guessing!!
*We have read more about the brain and in particular the way our brains are delicate and are protected by the skull, membranes and liquid.

Other:
*A run and a swim in preperation for the tryathlon.
*An art session, fun with finger painting, using aboriginal art and pointillism as inspiration.
*More Charlottes Web.
