It's a good day to be a weather addict

As long as you have a cool place to be. We are hiding in the house with the doors and windows closed and curtains drawn.

I actually didn't believe it was going to be this hot today, how can it climb that high that fast, the temps have been sitting pleasantly in the high 20s and early 30s all week! However when the northerly arrived I ate my words....fast.

We have broken our all time high. Final high temp was 46.3C. Highest ever for Melbourne since records begun.

I enjoyed this article too. Particularly this bit:
Avoid the beach. It might sound like a pleasant option, and it is if you know of a nice, secluded spot. Otherwise, spending a stinking hot day with 1000 other people and their screaming kids will not make the heat any less oppressive. And you can be guaranteed that, at some point, somebody will pee in the shallows.
Never a truer word spoken!

And for posterity, here is the wotsit from the weather bods. You can see the crazy sudden heatwave. And you can also see the cold front come through which is fairly normal Melbourne.... unlike the sudden heat.
