We haven't done a lot of costumes of late. Connor is in a bit of a pirate phase and that lends itself to ripped trousers and scruffy shirts. But here are some oldies but goodies.
Roman Tunica and Toga. Nov 07
The tunica is made from calico and the toga from towelling which apparantly is heavy and drapes like the wool that the Romans used. Togas were such complicated beasties that the Romans often had toga slaves to help them drape them. Connor took great delight at this and as I had to help him drape it, called me his toga slave. Oh the cheek of it! Connor wore this everywhere. Including to the airport to collect Nana. Remember that Nana?
Medieval Monk Feb 08
This one is made from a couple of old grey wool blankets and a hemp rope (thank goodness for a sailing husband) Connor made the timber cross himself just as the monks used to do.
He didn't wear it terribly much because it's hot and heavy and scratchy. It would be the perfect campfire outfit!
And lastly this one is from this month. We were learning about Mary Queen of Scots and James VI of Scotland. I didn't have the fabric paint to make a kilt. So Action man got a makeover. It's not very authentic as the extra fabric should be slung over his shoulder but oh well. Doesn't he look fab!
