On Saturday we did some baking. The good old Edmonds Book had a recipie for Coconut Chocolate Brownies which we converted to Dairy free/Gluten free with great success (such success we have made them 3 times since)
Sunday we headed into town for the Moomba Festival. We headed straight to the Yarra for the Birdman competition. After watching that for a while we went to our hotel to dump our bags and headed out to the Dragon Boat competition at Docklands.
We watched that for an hour or so then headed to Birrarung Marr. We wandered around the carnival and went on the Ferris Wheel that is always there. We also stopped along the way to watch various street performers. Back to the hotel for a rest then out to Crown Complex to see the fires. Mia was hysterical at the noise of the flames so that wasn't much of a winner.
Then we wandered down to watch the Moomba fireworks. And then back to watch the Crown Fires from the much safer spot of the Market Street Bridge. Then we headed to bed for the night.
Mia's view of the fireworks:
Next morning we went to the Moomba Parade. It was a really fabulous representation of the cultures of Melbourne. They had a good Wurrindjuri Group (local tribe) that explained all about their beliefs which was very interesting. My favourite memory is of the Somali and Hare Krishna groups walking back up the parade route together. They were dancing and singing the Hare Krishna song to the beat of the Somali drum. Now there is cultural togetherness!
Here is Mia's picture of the final group. The Chinese Dragon
