Camping at Wilsons Promontory National Park

We went camping at Wilsons Prom with friends for Melbourne Cup weekend.
We've never been there before and it's just stunning!

Here's a few photos:
Dinner time!

Beach Cricket
Body Boarding

Jordan and Richard came home on Sunday for the day.  Mia, Connor and I walked to meet the other families at Squeaky Beach.   So named because it squeaks a LOT when you walk on it, it's great fun. It also had good boarding.  Not that I was getting in, it was about 15C brrrrr

Wilsons Prom is covered in amazing rock formations, check out the strong man!

And she couldn't wait until she had her togs on, oooohhh nooooo.
Wet to the knees.

We saw a lot of wildlife.  This kookaburra was on the way to Squeaky Beach

These birds feasted on what we dropped around the camp table

And at Tidal River, you have to keep your food in your car at night or the nocturnal wombats will break into your tent to get to it.  They snuffled around the campsites each night, between our feet and walking around in the dark I almost tripped over one a couple of times.  They are small but very solid, in a contest between a car and a wombat, the wombat will win (although he'll probably die).  They run fast though so it was hard to get a good shot.

One afternoon one of our fellow campers and I set off to take some photos of the fire damage as Wilsons Prom was substantially effected by the fires in February 2009.  The damage is incredible, even now 10 months later there is little life in the areas affected.
A few wildflowers have emerged, and some bracken. But mostly it's still sand and black trees.

These are called grass trees, they were by far the most regenerated and this is because they have a very deep tap root, allowing them to regenerate quickly after fire, from impressively blackened stumps.
