Tuesday Teatime

As part of The Writers Jungle Lifestyle which I am trying to implement we had our first Tuesday Teatime today where we all read poetry.

i am sitting up in a tree
not that i am given to climbing trees
i am not
i am not given either to
bird watching
bird nesting
or birdy talk
i do not become excited at the sight
of a snowy tufted puffingchook
a mottled goosefinch
a rare hebridean cat-thrush
a green billed fingertit
an early auk
a yellow owl
and look o look daddy
the african puddingbird
chirrup chirrup chirrup
tweeeeeet tweet
tuwhit tuwho
ernie mcwhidden belongs to the
feathered friends league
and that's how he goes on
but i don't
i am sitting up in a tree
because
it's the best place to eat an all day sucker
if you don't want
to share it
with anyone

Kim's Collection by David Bateson

Kim collects all kinds of things:
lolly sticks and can-top rings,
coloured straws,
jagged stones,
plastic cartons,
old white bones.
When the beach has jetsam there Kim will fossick everywhere:
soggy seaweed,
(salty smells),
tattered feathers,
broken shells, Bits of cork and empty tins, dry sea-urchins, fishes' fins,
chunks of charcoal
from some fire,
lengths of string
and tangled wire;
Marble pebbles, smoothed by ocean, screw-top lids from sun-tan lotion,
half a twisting
birthday candle,
old false teeth,
a battered sandal. Some folk scorn the weird selection of the things in this collection;
others love
to touch and see them,
find such fun
in Kim's museum.
